How Do I: Configure Windows Firewall

Firewall software is being packaged with every new computer, system upgrade, and broadband internet account. This software will need to be configured to allow the SleepyEngineers server to access your computer. If you are using Windows XP, follow the instructions below to configure “Windows Firewall”
  1. From the “Start” menu, select “Control Panel”
  2. Select “Windows Firewall” (from the “Security Center” category)
  3. On the “General” tab, select the “On” radio button
  4. On the “Exceptions” tab, select “Add Program…
  5. From the Add a Program window, select “Windows Media Encoder” from the list of Programs. Click “OK”
  6. Back on the “Exceptions” tab, select your encoder from the list of programs. Click “Add Port…”
  7. On the Add a Port window, add a Name (any) and the Port Number you opened on your router. Click “OK”
  8. Back on the Windows Firewall window, Click “OK” to end

Once your Windows firewall is set up, you'll need to configure a Dynamic DNS for your encoder PC. For instructions on how to configure a Dynamic DNS, go to the Knowledgebase article titled "How do I: Configure a Dynamic DNS." If you have a static IP and don't need Dynamic DNS, then you can jump ahead to "How do I: Windows Media Encoder (PULL Method)."
