sh3.audio-stream.com migration (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • Affecting Server - Streaming Servers
  • We are connecting you to inform you that there will be a server migration for all customers on the server you are on (sh3.audio-stream.com), With this migration your streaming server will be moved to one of our new HA Cloud streaming servers, so with after this move your streaming server will be on a High availability cluster. what that means to you is that there will be less chance of any down time on your server.

In the next few days you will receive an email from us with your new streaming server details in it. We will be giving you one week to complete your migration from the server you are on now to the new streaming server before we cancel the old account.

    With this migration your streaming server Hostname, IP, and Port number will all change so you will need completed the changes below;

    1. You will need to reconfigure your remote encoder with the new streaming server info.

    2. You will also need to let all your DJs know about the migration so they can update their remote encoders.

    3. You will need to update your player links or any embedded payers you have on your web site with the new streaming server info.

See below for some common questions we have seen.

    1. Is there any chance that this will happen again in the near future?

No this will not, But we will be updating our Streaming control panel in about 6 mounts or a year. While your IP or port will not change with this CP update, the URL for accessing your Streaming Control Panel will change and the listen links may change. but your streaming server will not be moved to a different server only the Control Panel will be moved with the update.

    2. When will this take place?

The Migration will start this week. we will begin creating your new streaming servers on the new server.

    3. When this does take place how long before the old servers are completely shut down?

We will be giving everyone one week to complete the migration. But we are starting the migration this week and we will be working on migrating customers all of November and part of December. Everyone must be completed by December 15th as the server will go offline just after then.

    4. What are the benefits of the new servers?

With this move we are moving your streaming server to a HA Cloud streaming server (VMWare cluster) and the biggest benefit to you our customers is that after this move you will be on a clustered server so if there are hardware issues on a server you will no longer be down very long at all. If there was a failure what would happen is your server will be started on another server in the cluster so your server would only be down about 5 mins or less.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to answer them for you.

    Summary

    • We will be enacting our procedures for a controlled power down and power restore to our UK Data Center. This will happen between the hours of 00:00 and 08:00 on Saturday 02/10/10.
    • These procedures are being put into action to allow essential repairs to the main power systems in our UK Data Center. For further details on these repairs please see Technical explanation of cause.
    • As part of procedures for restoration of power there will additional staff on site. They will be checking that all services have power restored and pro-actively investigating any issues reported by our monitoring system.

    Sequence of events

    00:00:

    • We will begin automatically logging into and executing a soft shutdown on our servers.
    • Your service will not be available during this time.

    01:00

    • Mains power will be systematically shut down.

    05:00

    • We aim to begin restoring power systematically across the site, in stages.
    • Technical staff will begin pro-actively investigating and restoring service to any problematic servers based on our monitoring.

    08:00

    • we aim to have all servers back online or have ticketed any remaining problems.

    Technical explanation of cause

    • We recently installed a fourth 500kva UPS into the data centre to add resilience and capacity to our power systems.
    • The data centre was designed with this in mind, so the appropriate connections exist on the Schneider UPS Output Panel (that feeds all servers from a common busbar) to connect this UPS.
    • During the installation of the UPS, engineers discovered there was a fault with the panel which meant the additional UPS could not be connected.
    • To repair this fault, we need to electrically isolate the panel, as engineers cannot work on the panel while it is live for safety reasons.
    • The manufacturer of the panel, Schneider, is sending a team of engineers to repair the panel so it can accept the fourth 500kva UPS.

Scheduled Subnet Move on 10/15/2009 at 23:00 (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • Affecting Server - Streaming Servers
  •

    Attention SleepyEngineers.com Customers:

In an effort to provide our valued clients reliable services, we have scheduled a Network Maintenance Window for the following servers: sh1.audio-stream and sh6.audio-stream

    Maintenance Window:

    -------------------

    Date: 15 October 2009

    Window: 23:00 for 2 Hours

    Duration: < 30 seconds

    -----------------------

We will be performing maintenance which will affect your service. This will last about 30 seconds, and during this time, your server will unreachable via the network.

During the outage we experienced a few weeks ago, we moved a small number of subnets on a different core router, to try and create a workaround for the connectivity issues we were experiencing. After this was done, there were no changes with regards to the issues we were experiencing. However, seeing as the Cisco TAC team discovered the problem shortly after we attempted this workaround, we restored service as quickly as possible. The upshot of this is we did not want to change the workaround we had put in place, although this did not solve the problem. We’re confident we understand the problem and moving your subnet to a new core router will not cause the problem to recur.

The maintenance is to move your subnet back onto the router in our new facility.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or questions regarding this maintenance window.

Planned Network Maintenance - 22/07/2009 (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • Affecting Other - UK Data Center
  • This is a message sent through SleepyEngineers.com.  You can also read this message by logging into your account and going to the Network Issues section.

This is a very important email, please read it carefully and ask us about it if you have any questions. We will be performing maintenance which will affect your service. This will last about 30 minutes, and during this time, your service will go offline.

    Date: 21 July 2009

    Window: 22:00 for 2 Hours

    Duration: < 30 minutes

This maintenance is to create a high availability cluster on our RSH.North core router, from our new Maidenhead facility. The cluster will increase the availability by providing redundant chassis and redundant processing, and each edge switch will be connected to both chassis via two separate uplinks. Thus, in the event of chassis failure, the traffic will not be affected, as the load will be taken over by the active chassis.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or questions regarding this maintenance window.

    Regards,
